Donnie L. McGaha, 70, of the Buckners Branch Community, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, December 31st, 2012 in a Buncombe County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Don and Prince Smith McGaha. He retired with 25 years of service with the Swain County School System. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Ulies McGaha, and two grandchildren, D.J. McGaha and Christin Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ellen McGugan McGaha; two children, Donald McGaha and wife Beth of Bryson City, and Darlene Burrell and husband Dwight of Bryson City; one step son, Aaron Birchfield and wife Lisa of Bryson City; five grandchildren, Mellie Gibson, Benji Murphy, Bobby Jo Matthews, Christian and Caleb Birchfield; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Arvey of Franklin, and Beadell Shuler of Marietta, GA, and one brother Earl McGaha of Candler.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Bryson City Church of God. Revs. Marty Pressley, Eugene Moore, J.T. Winchester, and Dale Green will officiate with burial in Blankenship Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Church.
