Obituary of Clara Mae Kirkland
Bryson City Dateline:
Clara Mae Simonds Kirkland, 81, of the Governors Island Community, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday February 17th, 2013 at her residence. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Catherine Woodard Simonds and wife of the late Paul John Kirkland. She worked for Newfound Lodge for 36 years as a housekeeper. She was preceded in death by a daughter Jessie Mae Walker; one son Roy Vincent Kirkland; 8 brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by 8 children; Lyle Kirkland of Cherokee, Dorothy Price and husband Ben, Leonard Kirkland and wife Patricia, Jerry Kirkland, Michael Kirkland, Donna Roland and husband Roger, Rachael Roland, and Dewayne Kirkland and wife Melinda all of Bryson City; 28 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Shuler of Tennessee, and Mary Lee Hardin of Florida, and one brother John Simonds of Delaware.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Dewayne Kirkland and Ray Fox will officiate with burial in Holly Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
