Susan, Sylvia,and Rusty,
Peggy and I are sorry we weren't able to attend the celebration of life for your dad. I hope all of you know that we have thought of your often during this time. And, it is true: wherever your dad was, he made that spot brighter and happier--even the nursing home! If I were an artist or true writer, one of the most loving pictures I could ever create would be that of your dad silently sitting beside your mother while holding her hand. Please remember us as we continue to care for Mother. Mary Lindsay Stiles and Peggy Lindsay Curtis

I'm truly sorry to hear about Mr. Lyday. It was always a pleasure to stop by the office to see my Dad and be greeted by Mr.Lyday regardless of how busy he was. He always took the time to say hello and share a interesting fact about animals or quiz me about any agriculture topic. My Dad spoke highly of Mr. Lyday and the Heavens will have a abundance of knowledge between the two of them in the field of agriculture.

To the family,
After reading the obituary of Mr. Lyday and realizing what an incredible life he lived on this earth, my only thought is this: "The best is yet to be!" Sorry I couldn't be there in person but know the celebration had to have special for such a special man. God bless.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your father. His obituary was a wonderful account of a life well spent in service to his community. I did not know him well as I was growing up but I always remember that unforgettable head of red hair and sweet smile. I hope that it brings you comfort to know he was well respected in the community.

To all the Lyday family - Your father was loved and admired throughout Swain County for his gentle, knowledgeable, and helpful ways. If one needed a prototype of the "greatest generation", one need look no further than Mr. Lyday. I've encountered countless folks who have commented on his wise advice.
My favorite way of going home in recent years has been to go up Bryson Branch and turn right on Bryson Avenue, even though it's not the most straightforward way. Just knowing that I was going past the Jack Lyday home seemed to make it the better course.

Please accept my condolence at the loss of your earthly father who was a humble, generous, and warm man. I will always remember him for the way he shared a smile and a warm greeting for whomever he met. Sounds like that continued right up until the end. With his passing, I feel that we have lost the last of the strong generation who developed us into the adults we are today. Such a loss, but such a great legacy. He will be greatly missed in the community.

Susan, Sylvia, and Rusty--I was saddened to learn of your father's passing. He was among the last of a generation who were community leaders and influential examples to those of my generation. His was always a friendly smile and a warm presence, and thanks to the earthly angel who was Beulah Suddreth, I kept up with Jack's well being right up to the time of my father's death. Daddy loved to talk gardening and all things related to the good earth with Jack, who was a man closely rooted to the land in so many meaningful ways. Take comfort in the fact that his was a good, full life and one which had significant and lasting influence on Bryson City and Swain County. Jack was a good man whom made a meaningful impact, and on a personal level I'm proud to have known him.

To the Lyday Family: Thinking of you at the earthly loss of Mr. Lyday. I have fond memories of him at The First Baptist Church as far back as I can remember. He appeared to such a gentle and humble man. He and my Dad always had lots to talk about and he was so kind to check on Daddy during his illness. I pray that sweet memories will carry you through these days to come. We know we can face another day "Because He Lives". God Bless, Sonya (Trawick) England
