Obituary of G.B Almond

G.B. Almond, Jr., 88, of the Deep Creek Community went home to be with the Lord and see his mom and dad again, Thursday, November 14, 2013 in a Jackson County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Gove Brownlow Sr. and Ethel McCracken Almond. He was a member and deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving honorably from 1943-1946. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Almond and a baby sister. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thelma Sawyer Almond; one son Billy Almond and wife Tina of Bryson City; one stepson Mike Clampitt of Bryson City; one granddaughter Alicia Frizzell; two great granddaughters of Cherokee; two brothers, Jim Almond of Decater, GA, and Joe Almond and wife Jean of Bryson City, and several nieces and nephews and special niece Heidi Woodard of Bryson City. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. David Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Sawyer Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the Bryson City VFW Post 9281. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
