John Paul Bair, 67, of Whittier, NC passed on Nov. 16 at Mountain View Manor in Bryson City. He was born Aug. 3, 1946 in Berkeley Springs, WV. John and his wife, Carolyn loved this area and moved to Whittier in 2006 from Hampton, VA. After serving 22 years in the Navy, John then worked as a nuclear inspector at the Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, VA for 10 years. He loved to travel and visited many places until his health began to fail.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Ruben Bair and Jessie Lee Rankin Bair; several aunts and uncles; and most recently, his step-son-in-law, Steve Blackwell. John is survived by his wife, Carolyn Corbin Bair; step-daughters, Frances Siragusa (Joe) of Yorktown, VA and Michelle Blackwell of Clinton, SC; step-sons, Anthony Tolbert (Kerri) of Cartersville, GA and Jimmy McFarland, Jr. (Jennifer) of Biloxi, MS; sisters, Elizabeth Brock (Warren) of Collinsville, AL and Margaret Ringham (Bob) of Franklinton, NC and Kathy Turner (Fred) of Moyock, NC; sister-in-laws, Joyce Holland (Jerry) of Rome, GA and Shirley Shaffer (Roy) of Rome, GA; brother-in-law, Wayne Corbin (Evelyn) of Calhoun, GA; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. As John wished, his body was cremated to remain with and be buried with Carolyn at her death. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:00pm at Whittier Church of God, with Pastor Ned Pressley officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation to American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
