Obituary of Kathleen Michelle DeHart
Kathleen Prather DeHart, 40, of Almond, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 28, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Her family was by her side.
A native of Martinsburg, WV, she had lived in Swain County most of her life. She was the daughter of Margaret Prather Messick of Sylva who survived her.
Kathleen was a graduate of Swain County High School and was employed at Western Carolina University as Building & Environmental Services Supervisor, Department of Residential Living. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Scott DeHart; her son, Austin Styles; stepsons, Chance and Brandon DeHart; her sisters, Phyllis Franks and April Messick of Sylva; brothers, Chris Messick of Thomasville and John Messick of Sylva; her grandparents, George and Phyllis Stanley of Martinsburg, WV; her father and mother-in-law, Elmo and Kathy DeHart and her brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Heather DeHart of Almond; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many friends and extended family who loved her so much.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Matthew Shuler and Sam McMahan will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends starting at 6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Swain County Relay for Life.
