Obituary of Doris Gibson
Doris G. Gibson, 95, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morganton, NC. Born in Bryson City, NC, May 23, 1918, she was the daughter of William Perry Grant and Katie Meadows Grant. She was the eldest of 9 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leonard N. Gibson; two brothers, Kenneth Grant, Bruce Grant; and a son-in-law, Alan Williams.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her son, Roger Gibson and wife, Lynda, of Raleigh, NC; daughters Nancy Williams of Friendsville, TN and Martha Mauney and husband, N. Rudolph, MD of Valdese, NC; grandson, Wes Williams (wife Kim), granddaughters Katie Bailes (husband Larry), and Kelly Gibson; and great-grandson Lucas Williams. She is also survived by brothers W. Terrell Grant, Max Grant and Robert Grant; sisters Edwina Grant, Martha Hamlin and Catherine Greene; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gibson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryson City.
She was a homemaker and really enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning.
The family will receive friends at Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City Wednesday, April 9 at 1:00 pm. A grave side service will be held in Swain Memorial Park at 2:00 pm with the Reverend John Tagliarini officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 and to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 247, Bryson City, NC 28713.
