Elizabeth Janet Cucumber Hughes, 81, of Bryson City joined her husband in Heaven Thursday, August 14, 2014. A native of Sevier County, TN, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie Cabe Cucumber. She attended Arlington Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hughes; two daughters, Jacqueline Cucumber and Terry Cucumber; son, Eddie Cucumber; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Cucumber; two brothers, John D. Cucumber, Jr., and Charlie Cucumber; and one sister, Bobbie Cucumber Sequoyah. She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Cucumber Bean and fiancé Raymond Farmer of Sylva; special granddaughter, Jessica Burnett of Sylva; granddaughter, Natasha Cucumber; three grandsons, Jeff Bean, Chet Chubonie, Aaron Bradley; seven great grandchildren, Trent Clauson, Brayden Lambert, Emily Elizabeth Lambert, Mattie Brockwell, Layla Cucumber, Trevor George, and J.D. George; and several nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Larry Spencer and Ed Kilgore will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
