David P. Monteith, 70, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 10, 2017 in a Buncombe County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late John and Mary Gunter Monteith. David attended Harmony Baptist Church. He had been a Swain County Commissioner since 1998. He was a compassionate volunteer at the Swain County Heritage Museum which he helped establish and was very passionate about the Road to Nowhere. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and charter member of FLWR. David was preceded in death by his brother, Max Monteith and his sisters, Beatrice Douthit and Gwen DeHart. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Calhoun Monteith; brother, John (Buddy) Monteith, Jr. and wife Barbara; sister-in-law, Carmaleta Monteith; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Bryson City. Rev. Tony Cochran will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers will be friends and relatives. Crisp Funeral Home is assisting the family.
