Sharon and I are very sad to hear of Johnny's passing. He was indeed a true friend and the same every time you saw him. We spent a lot of time at the rec park during it's early days - Johnny umpired a lot of baseball games for me back in the 70's. We would see "JP" ,as I called him, on an occasional trip back to Bryson City, and it was always a pleasure to ask about what he was up to and how his family was. He was a proud family man and just a really wonderful person. We have lost another friend much too soon.
Our condolences to all the family, and may God give you comfort and strength.

I attended school with Johnny as we called him from 1st Grade when we had Mrs. Heffner to high school graduation. He was one of my very best friends. I remember getting a spanking in first grade because I hit Johnny with a broom after class while waiting for the second load busses to return to pick us kids up. Mrs. Heffner's daughter Judy walked right in the room about the time I swung the broom and she ratted me out. Those were the days. Johnny was always laughing and he was simply a good guy that I will always remember. To the family, I offer my condolences. But one day I will see Johnny again and we will walk streets of gold and just maybe we will talk about the good old days when I got my tail busted. I see that Johnny attended Mt Carmel Baptist Church. That is also the name of the church I attend only it's in Arkansas. God bless you all.

To Johnny's family:
From childhood, Johnny was one whose friendship was constant and always appreciated. While after high school we rarely got together, when we did, he was consistently that same great guy, and always very proud of and eager to talk of his family. God bless and keep you.

To the entire family:
My deepest condolences and most sincere prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of Johnny. I was blessed to visit with Johnny on Monday of this past week. We shared lots of stories together, read about seven portions of scripture together and prayed.
I will always remember Johnny as father to one of my best friends, Richard Parton. Richard admired and respected his daddy.
We are so thankful to God that Johnny understood and embraced God's grace through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Eternal life continues for Johnny as he has entered Heaven and is in the very presence of God!
God Bless you all during this difficult time of grief.
