Obituary of Lovedy Allin Ellis Brawley Erwin

Lovedy Allin Ellis Brawley Erwin, 82, passed away Tuesday Morning, April 20, 2010. Mrs. Erwin was born August 13, 1927 and grew up in Miami, FL. She attended the University of Virginia as a Cadet Nurse in 1945, and graduated in 1948. She was a resident of North Carolina for over 55 years. She served as Director of Nursing at Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury, NC; with the Navajo Tribe in Chinle, AZ.; and retired from Cherokee Indian Hospital in 1989 after 13 years of service in Cherokee. She was an active member of the Bryson City Presbyterian Church, a member of the Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni, UVA, and member of Brush Creek Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allin Clyde Ellis and Jennie Elizabeth Britton Ellis; husbands, James Shober Brawley, Sr., and John Thomas Erwin; and sister, Margaret Ellis Murauskas. She is survived by her sons, James S. Brawley Jr. and wife Sheila of Clemson, SC, Robert Allin Brawley of Gainesville, Virginia, Neil Scott Brawley and wife Wendy of Pymble, NSW, Australia; grandchildren, Robert, Michael, James, Rebecca, George, Robin, Emma, Julia; one great grandchild, Keita; brother, Walter Henry Scott Ellis, II of Bryson City; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends, Helen Lowe Brawley and Sylvia Harshbarger Ellis. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Bryson City Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Hanna officiating. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park. There will be a reception following the services in the fellowship hall at the church. Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
