Obituary of Leslie Shook

Leslie Shook, 78, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord at 1:50 am Friday, July 14, 2017 after a short stay at the Elizabeth House Hospice Center in Flat Rock. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Ira Edwin and Ella Mae Bradley Shook. He attended Deep Creek Baptist Church when his health allowed. He worked most of his life in Nuclear Power and was most proud of his law enforcement career in Swain County. Along with his wife, he was owner of Village Grocery on Soco in Cherokee for 17 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, three brothers; and his daughter, Denise Shook Tabor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years and 20 days, Barbara Roland Shook; two daughters, Debbie Cassada and husband Dennis of Hendersonville, Darlene Crisp and husband Kenneth of Bryson City; his son-in-law, J.C. Tabor; five grandchildren, Monica and Jason Pummer, Shawn ansd Angie Votaw, Holli and Shannon Taylor, Miles Cassada and Tyler Crisp; 10 great grandchildren, Chance, Lacilynn, Kadin, Walker, Kendall, Korbin, Paisley, Maci, Killian, Owen; and his brother, Gerald Shook of Bryson City.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Cogdill will officiate with burial in the Arlington Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Four Seasons Elizabeth House, 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
