Obituary of Vera Eunice Wiggins

Vera Eunice Wiggins of Whittier passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 7, 2017. Eunice was born in Rutherford County on May 20, 1921 to parents Ethel Carroll Mathis and Levi Jefferson Mathis. She lived with her family in a number of Jackson County communities, including Caney Fork and Wilmot. On January 20, 1942 she married James Charlie "Bud" Wiggins and they settled in Whittier. Eunice worked at CJ Harris hospital for a number of years before retiring in 1988. She enjoyed the last 29 years of her life by spending time with her family, working in her garden, growing beautiful flowers, canning and telling stories of time passed. She attended Ela Baptist Church, where she was affectionately called "granny" by everyone. Eunice is preceded in death by her parents and husband, her brothers, Hoyle, Berlin, A.W., Furman and Gordon, her sisters Eula, Hester, Luvada and Reba, and her son Johnny. She is survived by one sister, Vernie Bradley of Arlington, Washington, her three children, Luzell Bennett, Susan Rackley and Evon Wiggins, all of Whittier, three grandchildren, Christian Wiggins of Kansas City, MO, Ben Wiggins of Whittier, and Kendell Bennett of Tucson, AZ, as well as two great grandchildren, Taylor and Deshay Wiggins. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at Crisp Funeral Home, with visitation at 5:00 p.m. and official service at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private and family only at a later date.
