Obituary of Norma Jean Grant
Norma Jean Totherow Grant, 83, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 26, 2018. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Myrtle Marr Totherow and wife of the late Odell Grant Sr. whom she was married to for 62 years. She was a lifelong member of Nantahala Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, J.B., Cecil, Bob, and Lionel Totherow.
After marrying in 1952, she worked in the financial district in Atlanta. She then worked side by side with Odell in several business ventures until retirement. She was also an avid homemaker whose unwavering support of, and unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was remarkable. She followed everyone's activities and undertakings with great enthusiasm and interest. She was also an avid reader, quilter, gardener and sharer of her faith. She made her home welcome for everyone who entered. She was happiest surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be inexpressibly missed by her family and anyone who was fortunate to call her a friend.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Cooper of Oak Ridge, TN, Odell Grant Jr. of Bryson City, Jill McCoy (Patrick) of Sylva; grandchildren, Christopher Drew Grant (Beth) and Vanessa Grant both of Cherokee, Gavin and Adrienne McCoy of Sylva; great grandchildren, Christian (C.J.) Grant, Chloe Norma Jean Locust and Otis George all of Cherokee; bonus children, Beth Randall of Bryson City, Tracy McDermott of Inman, SC, Darryl Totherow of Conover; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Reed Benson J.D. Grant and Jason Holloway will officiate with burial in the Euchella Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Nantahala Baptist Church, 1333 Wesser Creek Road, Bryson City, NC 28713.
