Obituary of Maxine Bivens

Maxine Monteith Bivens, 83, of Bryson City passed away Friday, December 7, 2018. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mae Shook Monteith and wife of the late Weldon Ginn and James Bivens.
She was a member of Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, East LaPort. She retired from Buster Brown Corp. Maxine was active in the Women Mission Union and was the ladies adult Sunday School Teacher.
Before sidewalks were installed on Franklin Grove Church Road, you could see Maxine picking up trash on the sides of the road. She took pride in the appearance of her community.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Oliver, Reid, Joe and Avery Monteith.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Robbin) Monteith of Bryson City, Karen (Mike) Brown of Flatwoods, KY; three grandchildren, Brandon Brown, Cory Brown, Carly Michaels; two great grandchildren, Bailey Brown and Jack Henry Brown; sisters, Norma Lee Herno of New Castle, PA, Annette (Jim) Farmer of Walhalla, SC; and her brother, Larry Monteith of Long Beach, WA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Mike Cogdill and Charles Dean will officiate with burial in the Lauada Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 151 Deep Creek Church Road, Bryson City, NC or the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
