Obituary of Georgia Annabelle Cochran

Georgia Annabelle Cochran passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018. She was a native of Swain County and was the daughter of Neavil Cochran and Inez Bowers Cochran. She attended Alarka Elementary School and graduated from Swain County High School where she was the recipient of a 4-year college scholarship provided by the Veterans Administration. She attended Western Carolina University and received her degree in Elementary Education. After her college graduation, Annabelle taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, grades at Cherokee Elementary School where she was awarded certificate of Excellence from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She retired after 27 years of teaching. After her dad's passing, she was the sole caregiver of her mom for 10 years. Annabelle is known for her love of the Lord, her knowledge of the Bible and her sweet caring nature for others and her family. She enjoyed working with flowers, reading and writing poetry. She is survived by her only sister, Garnell Douthit and husband Bennie Douthit of Franklin, niece Crystal Rumfelt of Marble, nephew Brent Douthit of Asheville, three great- nephews and one great-niece, many wonderful cousins and friends. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Al Alemany and Rev. Chris Rumfelt will officiate with burial at Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Carolina Christian Academy at PO Box 1254, Hayesville, NC 28904.
