I attended Oconaluftee Job Corps from October 2000 to September 2001. Randy (Or, "Bocook", as he liked to be addressed) was my Residential Advisor. I always had a profound respect for him. He was a father figure and a mentor to me. We both had a love of guitars. I was just learning, and he taught me some songs that I remember to this day. I'll never forget the day he brought his beloved Chet Atkins "Country Gentlemen" to the dorm and let me play it for a while. Bocook was a fair man, and always treated us like adults. He was the voice of reason, and listening ear when needed. Although it's been nearly 20 years since my attendance in Job Corps, I was really hoping I'd be able to make contact with him via Facebook, or something of the sort. I'm absolutely saddened to hear of his passing. I'm not sure he never the kind of impact he had on me. I can only hope this brings some measure of comfort to his family knowing that someone, albeit a perfect stranger to them, was very fond of him, and will never forget him.
