Obituary of Neal Grant Blanton
Neal Grant Blanton of the Toot Hollow Community, Bryson City, NC went home to be with the Lord and her loved ones on Monday, April 15, 2019.
A native of Swain County, Neal was born on February 1, 1921 to Dock Sidney and Ellen Woody Grant of Toot Hollow, Bryson City, NC. As a young girl she gave her heart to the Lord at the Bryson City First Baptist Church, years later it was there that her future husband, Grady A. Blanton first saw her as she sang in the choir. Neal and Grady had been married 60 years when Grady died in February, 1999. She is also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald and Harold Grant, sister Eloise Grant Ollis and her husband Earl Ollis, and son-in-law Russell Childers.
Neal is survived by two daughters, Reva Blanton of the home and Peggy Blanton Childers of Bryson City, grandchildren Dannie Childers (Carol) of Bryson City and Cindi Childers Barnes (Jerry) of Cherry Log, GA., five great-grandchildren, five great-great grand daughters, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends Doris and Jim Turner.
Neal was a godly Proverbs 31 woman from whom younger women sought advice about homemaking, gardening, crocheting, cooking and life. Her life verse was, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”Philippians 4:13. She was a long-time member of Victory Baptist Church of Bryson City. Neal loved her family and church family, and was known and loved as MamMaw by many. She enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, and life. “A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30.
Services will be held at Victory Baptist Church, Fontana Road, Bryson City, NC on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 12:00 noon. Pastor Brian Schuler will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Burial will be at Swain Memorial Park.
