Obituary of Katharyn Cody

Katharyn Cody, 85, of Sherrill Road, Bryson City went home to be with her Savior on August 6, 2019.

A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Hyman and Freda Lowe Hayes. She was a life-long member of Rock Creek Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer and Sunday School Class Teacher. She enjoyed living for her Lord and taking care of her grand and great grandchildren and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Verlous “Pete” Cody, five brothers, Jack Dempsey Hayes, Tommy Hayes, James Hayes, Charles Hayes and Bob Hayes; and three sisters, Hazel Richardson, Ellen King and Bertha Bryant.

She is survived by her son, Verlous Cody Jr. and wife Penny of Bryson City; three grandchildren, Michael Cody (Heather), Katie Cody Green (Ercell) and Aden Smith Cody; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Peggy Hayes and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Tim Hayes and Ercell Green will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Cody, Ercell Green, Larry Bryant, Bobby Hayes, Terry Hayes, and Tim Hayes.
