Obituary of Barbara Dee Lawton

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara D Lawton passed away at home on August 27, 2019. Barb was born December 7, 1961 in Groton, Connecticut to James and Sandy (neé Richards), the youngest of three children. She spent her formative years in Central New York, where she raised both of her children. After her children were grown, Barb moved to Florida and then the Carolinas where she could be near family and friends.

Barb was well known for her sharp wit, great sense of humor, and love for family and friends. For all these reasons and many more, Barb will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 5 years, Ben Tinnin; two sons and their wives, Jonathon and Melissa Sturdevant of Chapin, South Carolina, and Mathew and Brandi Sturdevant, of Columbia, South Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Gary Vogel, of Westerly, Rhode Island; two nephews and a niece, Aaron Vogel of Pawcatuck, CT, Tyler and Caroline Lawton of Santa Clarita, California; and one wonderful granddaughter, Kyra, who she loved dearly.

Barb was an active knitter, often making socks, hats, and other gifts for her family and friends. As life delivered good fortune to Barb, so she gifted that fortune to those around her. Her other interests included traveling, technology, and socializing with those she was closest with.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.

As I stand on the mountaintop, as the great bird approaches, she is small in my sight but grows larger until I am blessed with the full sight of her graceful wings, proud countenance, and good company. All too quickly, she grows small again on the horizon and disappears from view. And I call out, “Look, there. She’s gone.” But there are other mountaintops beyond me. And at the precise moment when I note the great bird’s departure from my view, I know there are new eyes taking up the sight of her. And fresh voices calling out, “Here she comes!”
