Henry and his family (and store) have always been part of our lives. Henry was always a friendly welcoming presence in our community. He would go above and beyond for those of us he knew and truly did took care of his neighbors. Our little community won't be the same, he will be greatly missed. I remember Henry and Lois very well in the community, not just from their store, but Henry's playing softball with all us kids at the Almond School ball field. And yes, he certainly could play ball! Lois drove my school bus and I was amazed at how far that little lady could stretch her leg to reach the pedals. I have fond memories of going to school with David and Elizabeth. There is no doubt that you are going to miss your Daddy. I hope you feel the prayers that will be said for you at this time and in the days ahead.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Connie Allen

Henry was a wonderful person. When my mom was married to his brother Gene, I can remember the number of times that he would give me and my older sister a snack at the store. It was usually a drink, a bag of chips or a moon pie. We thought that was gold if you got a snack like that. However, we did have another sister Ada as well. She was a baby. He always treated us so kind. When me & my older sister were in high school, he would always let us ride with him to watch him & the other guys play baseball. He was a great ball player. As a matter of fact, one of the best. When my mom & his brother Gene divorced, he never let that interfere with his kindness and respect towards us. When I moved away from Bryson City and would come back to visit my grandmother, who still lived there, I would always stop by the store and speak with Henry & his wife. His kindness never changed. I have nothing but good things to say about Henry and the utmost respect for that man. The community is going to miss him. I give my condolences to his kids & family. Much prayers for you all.

I will never forget Henry. Growing up we loved to stop at the store. He would always give me and my sister a piece of gum and pick on us in good humor. He did the same with both my girls when we would stop by. I do not think I ever saw him without a smile. He was a good man that will be missed. Love and prayers to his family.
