Carol Elizabeth Hamilton Styles, known to her family, friends, and the community as “Snookie” passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Tsali Care Center after a period of declining health.
Snookie was born on October 11, 1934 at East LaPorte in Jackson County to the late Roy Wayne Hamilton and Fannie Carver Hamilton. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 67 years, Paul Styles; an infant daughter; brothers Russell Hamilton and Ted Hamilton; sisters Irene Hamilton Dunn and Dot Hamilton; and beloved friends JoAnne Henson Sutton, Eloine Sutton Moores, and Frankie Ball.
She is survived by sons Bobby Styles (JoAnn) and Kirby Styles (Kim); daughter Sandra Styles English (Lee); grandchildren Bobbi Jo Jenkins (Jeff), Sam English, Nick English (Laura), Heather Styles-Turbyfill (Jared), and Emily Styles; beloved granddaughter-in-law Jennifer English; and great-grandchildren Caleb Rowland, Norah Dunlap, River English, Sean English, Hunter English, and Summer English; brother Joe Hamilton (Barbara); best friend for over 70 years, Mary Lou Battle Parrish; as well as a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Snookie was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband’s businesses. She also worked for the Swain County School System as a teacher assistant at the Alarka School. She was a very kind person, who genuinely cared for her family, church family, and friends. Voted Most Friendly by her Senior Class, she epitomized the saying-”She never met a stranger.” Her favorite saying was “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” She will be sorely missed by many and we are so grateful that God gave us this precious woman.
The funeral service will be held at Crisp Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with the service following at 2:00 pm. Reverend Mike Cogdill will officiate. Nick English will give the eulogy and Jennifer English will be singing. Interment will be at Swain Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church PO Box 597 Bryson City, NC 28713.
The family would like to thank the Bryson Senior Living Center for their care of Snookie and would like to especially thank the Tsali Care Center Staff for their compassionate care and kindness to Snookie and her family in the final months of her life.
