Melissa Ann Green
Who was she?
She was a Peacher (maiden name)
She was a daughter, a step-daughter
She had the biggest blue eyes and blonde hair
When she was born all the aunts and uncles sat around the yard in a circle at the old farmhouse we lived at trying to decide what to name her.
Anna Belle was one of those names…. Belle was my grandmother’s middle name.
They landed on Melissa Ann, and boy was she ever happy. Her entire life every time the discussion about her name came up she told Mom she would NEVER have forgiven her if she had named her Anna Belle.
She was a sister to 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters)
She was the person who if you really knew her, you knew she never ate but one tomato in her entire life. At the age of 3, she was eating a tomato at the end of the driveway when she had an appendicitis attack and had to go the hospital. The rest of us were farmed out to various aunts and uncles until she recovered from surgery. She was always believed it was that tomato that caused her to get sick. Lol
She was a wife to Doug. She met Doug online and they played cards and games and chatted and laughed as they go to know each other. They fell in love before ever meeting each other.
When she flew to Sturgis to meet Doug, our sister Debbie flew out with her, as she refused to let her come out to Sturgis alone. As Doug took them sightseeing one of the places was up an old remote logging road and a place where there was a ski lift. Debbie told Melissa, “he could kill us both out here and nobody would ever find us!” Thank goodness he didn’t kill them, otherwise she would not have become a MOTHER to Callie and a grandmother to Ayla and Beau, and a mother-in-law to Adam.
Melissa was a friend, a joy when she was happy, but when she wasn’t, well you can fill in that blank.
Her friends Dan and Betty Jo recalled times where they just sat around joking and laughing and loved to see her love of giving to the Sturgis community. They recalled many families that were blessed by Melissa because her gift was a gift of her TIME.
She was a 4H volunteer and a Girl Scout leader when Callie was in Girl Scouts, she helped Betty Jo teach the girls the love of basic life skills and the love she shared in quiliting – and what a gift and talent in quilting she had.
She was very compassionate. When her friend, Flo, was ill she would stay with them even overnights.
When her friend Donna, was in the nursing home ill, she stayed by her beside and sometimes even crawled in the bed with her to comfort her.
There was a family in Sturgis who lost their son at a very early age, about 14, in a driving accident, she was a friend of the family and she started a Memorial in memory of his name. The Sturgis community has been so blessed by her giving to so many.
Finally, Betty Jo and Dan wished to pass along how much they loved Melissa’s love of taking pictures and how amazing her pictures were. Capturing the beauty and wonder of nature and the beauty of the Black Hills.
Melissa is an angel, she is in Heaven dancing, laughing, playing jokes on us, watching over us
And Finally…
She is missed….missed more deeply can words can express or she could ever believe.
But we can take comfort in knowing she is happy, healthy and no longer bound by her medical limitations. And she is with her Mother, here in North Carolina finally at rest.

Melissa was such a special person in so many ways. I love her like a daughter and she will always hold a very special place in my heart. I know she is at peace and loving being with her mom. Love you Melissa always.
