Obituary of Danny Gene McLeod

Danny Gene McLeod, 68, passed away on Sunday August 6, 2023. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home after a brutal but valiant fight against cancer. Born on July 6, 1955, in Dade City, FL, to Max and Shirley. He became a journeyman iron worker in Tampa, FL. He had a great love for cars and his passion was dirt track racing and old hot rods. He later moved to Whittier, NC, where he owned and operated Smoky Mountain Automotive Services for nearly 40 years. He treasured his mountain home and its glorious mountain view. In addition to his mother, Danny is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, RV and Willa Pearl McLeod, and his maternal grandparents James and Ella Coelle and his sister, Angela Marie. Danny is survived by his wife Jackie Welch McLeod. They shared 37 beautiful years together, his son, Danny Junior and wife Emily, grandchildren Dylan and Haley, brother-in-law John Welch, and special niece, Amanda. He is also survived by his father Max and wife Nell and siblings Rusty, Melanie, and Carol. In later years, Danny took up fishing and crabbing in the Florida Keys, driving for Federal Express, and being a great helper at Grace Lutheran School in Key West, FL. Above all else, Danny was a good man. He went about his life with a humble and quiet spirit. He was always available to help those who needed it. He will be missed by all who knew him. Danny had a great love for his dogs, each one lived a charmed and happy life and was just a little bit spoiled.
