Please pray for this wonderful family. When I first meet Little Luke they moved in a house across the road in the field with his Daddy Who I always called Big Luke . I was happy as I could be I had someone new to play with , walk to the bus house with. We have some of the best childhood memories. Sledding was probably one of the best. We always had a crowd Tommy and Elaine and the Boys, Rose , Big Luke sat on the porch and watched us .
We grew up he meet Mary Ellen she was a blessing they had the kids my mom adored those kids. She adored Little Luke he was like one of us . We all just fit . Then things change we start getting married and moving away and didn’t see each other as much but we hold on real tight to those memories because in times like this that’s what will carry you through. Little Luke this is not goodbye this is I will see you soon . I know mama was there awaiting tell I said hello give her one of those big ole squeeze you to death hugs lol . I love you . Mary Ellen Helton and the whole family I know this hurts . Find peace knowing we will walk on streets of Gold with Little Luke Helton if we know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and have ask him into our hearts . What a glorious day that will be . Please lift this family up in prayer tonight

I just saw this news and it hits hard. I want Brittney Helton Cunningham, Matthew Helton, and Daniel Marr to know that your dad was in my top three all time greats list. It's comforting to know he is joining the other two in heaven.
Your dad helped teach me how to hunt. He welcomed me into his home for holidays and broke bread with me as if I was family. He even put up with me on vacation. His influence has helped make me into the person I am today. Please know my heart and my prayers are with your family and please give Miss Mary Ellen Helton my love.
Rest in Power, Sir.

I was very fortunate to have known Luke along time. He was always in and around the day care when my kids were young and he always had a jolly greeting and a warm laugh. I took a part time job for SWCC as the GED and adult high school teacher and a couple months in Luke showed up in my class. He was feeling defeated because he was missing one part of his test to get his GED. All those years I knew him it never dawned on me that he was struggling to get that done because he could pretty much fix or do anything. So Luke and I started working on preparing to get him a scribe so he could take his test. I taught him how to write a story just like I was taught. We're gonna tell the what we're gonna tell them, then we're gonna tell them and then we're gonna tell them what we told them. Luke was puzzled but He was ready to learn. So I gave him an introduction, I'm gonna teach you how to plant a garden. Then I let him tell me the whole process from preparing the ground all the way through harvest. Then I said and that my friends is how you plant a garden. I saw that light bulb come on when he realized he'd just wrote me a story. We kept practicing for a couple weeks and he got it. One of our last practice stories was to tell me about a person that Luke admired the most. He told me it was his brother in law and he gave an awesome story. The day came to take the test and we met at SCc. He was give his paper and I was there to scribe. The assignment for his written test portion was, Name a person that you admire the most and why!! Luke thanked me everytime he saw me for helping him complete his goal. But it was his story that made that happen. I was just a scribe. I know Luke's already breaking the ground and planning out the rows for his garden in Heaven. And I look forward to sharing in its bounty one day with him. I love you Mary Ellen Helton and your family's always meant so much to me. Ill keep yall in my thoughts and prayers

When my first child was born, Luke and Mrs. Mary Ellen were the first people to see Brittany and I in the hospital to congratulate us and see how we were doing. This was in Asheville and we were very young and nervous. I will never forget this. Such an important moment in our lives and they will always be remembered. Love this entire family and what they stand for

I still remember when me and Matthew Helton went to children's corner daycamp when Mrs. Mary Ellen still worked there with my Mom. I will never forget Luke gathering all the kids around him and showing us a bumblebee he had caught. We were all in awe and it was a memory that stuck with me, looking back it was such a small thing, but a huge gesture for someone to make all the kids smile. He will be missed

I remember Luke from Elementary School and then as we moved to high school. He was always the same, not matter where or who he was with. Kind soul. That is how I remember him and his laugh.

I always thought the world of Luke he was so kind and generous. I will never forget when he ran the fruit stand and I was pregnant with my first child when he seen me coming he would already have me a good ripe watermelon waiting for me at the counter and most of the time wouldn't charge me for it. Heaven sure gained a good one. May God wrap a hedge of comfort around his family and friends today and the days to come.
Sincerely,
Judy Huskey

Luke was always super nice to me. He made my daughter a bookshelf that I still have to this day. Her daughter now uses it. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a great man and will be missed. Angie Shuler

I don’t think there was ever a time I didn’t see him smile. He was always joyful and laughing and just someone you could just sit next to and talk for hours with. Definitely going to miss seeing him and talking to him. Will always remember the times when me and Matt read meters together, going to the house and he make the homemade beanie weenies or just have a good conversation at one of the kid’s birthday parties. Until we meet again. Love y’all
