Obituary of Sandra Rae Garland

Sandra Garland, 70, of Bryson City formerly of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Saturday September 16, 2023 at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville after a brief battle with ovarian cancer. A longtime resident of Bryson City, she was the wife of the late Wayne Garland and the daughter of the late James and Charlotte Whorl.
Sandra was formerly employed at Swain County Schools and other local businesses. She was also involved in local volunteer activities with The Restoration House and the Bryson City Food Pantry.
She is survived by two sons, Chris and Jinsuk of South Korea, and Brian and Sarah of Asheville; four brothers and sisters, Scott and Sherry, Karen Eidenmiller and Jerry, Kevin and Elissa, and Sally Cook and Bryan; nephews and nieces David, Christy, and Lisa; Ashley, Marissa, and Travis; Connor, Aaron, and Lauren; and James, Jason, and Lisa; one dog, Hot Rod. She was a loving mother, sister, and wife.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Thursday at Bryson City United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Restoration House or the Bryson City Food Pantry.
