Mary was my best friend. We were neighbors in a magical mobile home park in Marina, California when Mary was six and seven years old. Our fathers were in the military with new postings every few years, so our families moved apart—Mary to Oregon, and I to Berlin, Germany. Although we saw each other only a few times over the last 60 years, we shared a bond that could not be broken. I will miss her lovely handwriting, cartoon drawings, memories shared, texts, and even her Pinterest raccoon and cat videos. My world will not be the same without her.
