Obituary of Roberta Fowler

Roberta Joan Fowler, age 88, was greeted by a very special angel to join her loved ones in the Master’s bouquet on December 4th, 2023. Born on August 14th, 1935, in Cherokee, NC. Joan was the daughter of Jesse and Ethel Owle McCoy. In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her brothers Solomon “Bud” McCoy and Charles McCoy, her grandchildren Christopher Norton and Joni Norton, her great-grandchildren Lauren Clark and Kiara George, and one great-great-grandchild Iva Lee Screamer. Additionally, her sister by heart, Annie Mae Norton and son-in-law Danny Lee Wilkerson. Joan is survived by her sons Ronald Willard “Odie” Allison and Jesse Dean Allsion, her daughters, Joy Lee Smith and Georgia Darlene Norton (James), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her brother Williard Eugene McCoy. She leaves behind her precious fur baby Spots who accompanied her his entire life. Affectionately known as “Mama”, “Granny”, or “Aunt Jo”, she lived a life full of love and laughter. In her spare time, she could be found roaming the wood with her grandchildren and dog in tow, teaching them all about the herbs and natural medicine. Additionally, in her spare time she enjoyed crafting traditional beadwork. A seamstress by trade, she enjoyed many years working at Barclays. Even though she moved away several times, her heart always led her home to Cherokee. Aside from her family, her greatest love was her flowers. She will be remembered for her faith, her love for family and friends, never letting anyone be hungry or cold, her kind and giving ways, her sense of humor, her courage and strong will, and her beautiful smile. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Tsali Care and Four Seasons Hospice for their exceptional care, love, and support. The family will receive friends Thursday December 7th, 2023, beginning at 4:00 pm until the hour of service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday December 8th, 2023, at Rock Springs Baptist Church located at 129 Old Gap Road Cherokee, NC 28719. Following the service, Joan will be laid to rest at Birdtown Cemetery. Honoring her as Pallbearers will be RD Allison, Mitchell Norton, Bear Allison, Jacob Norton, Jon Maney and TK Soap.
