Obituary of Dixie Jane DeHart

Dixie Jane Henry DeHart, 91, of the Governors Island Community, passed away and is resting in her Father's House Monday, December 31st, 2012 in a Jackson County Hospital. A native of Jackson County, she had lived in Swain County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Marcellas and Addie Cogdill Henry and wife of the late John DeHart which she married in 1940. She and John owned and operated DeHarts Food Market for 25 years. She was a graduate of Sylva High School. She dedicated herself to being a wife and mother. After retirement she and John travelled extensively through the lower 48 States and Canada. They took their daughters and grandchildren on vacation to historic landmarks and across country to visit their California cousins. She was a member of the Bryson City United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Lewis, and Hobert Henry and two sisters Carrie Beck and Gerlie Jones.
She is survived by two daughters Brenda DeHart Cadaret of Bluffton, SC, and Jane DeHart Greaves of Bryson City; two grandchildren, Jane Harmon and husband Mike of Bluffton, SC, and Julie Holmes and husband Ben of Hilton Head SC; two great grandchildren, Amanda Holmes, and Brady Harmon, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Bryson City Presbyterian Church. Revs. Terry Hanna and Wayne Dickert will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:00 AM Saturday at the Church.
