Obituary of Douglas MacAuther Cochran

Douglas MacAuther Cochran, 84, of Swain County passed away peacefully March 20, 2024, at Tsali Care Center. A native of Swain County he was born November 18, 1939, to the late Sam and Lottie Brendle Cochran. Douglas worked as a superintendent in the construction industry building tunnels for the Dept of Transportation.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, six brothers: George, Cecil, Clifford “Sonny”, Virgil, Sammy, and Leland; four sisters: Hettie Ingle, Fanny Burr Cochran, Teenie Ducket, and Ann Nobles; a grandson, Justin Cochran; and a son-in-law Michael Gibson.
He is survived by his four children: Jeffery “Jeff” Cochran (Donna) of Stecoah, NC, Debbie DeHart (Roger) of Murphy, NC, Beth Cochran Gibson of Bryson City (Charlie Watson), and Randy Cochran of Bryson City; five grandchildren: Haley Aldridge (Jesse), Heather Griffin (John), Sarah Minuto (Sean), Randy Tyler Cochran, Joshua Adam Cochran; one great-grandchild Zane Griffin. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews; and is also survived by the mother of his children Helen Woodard.
Doug was a hard-working individual and did his utmost to provide for his family. If he wasn’t working, he was enjoying the outdoors, gardening fishing, and working in the woodpile were his favorite pastimes. He truly loved his family, and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He also loved his two dogs Susie and Sadie.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday March 24, 2024, at the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home at 2pm, with the Rev. Coy Adams officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
The family Requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a favorite charity.
