Obituary of Edward Claude Chambers

EDWARD CLAUDE CHAMBERS, 91, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday Morning May 19, 2010. He was born November 19, 1918 in Murphy, NC, to the late Bedford and Florence Chambers. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his son Edward J. (Toby) Chambers; one grandson, Chad Chambers; his first wife, Nannie Sue McHaffey Chambers; and second wife, Edna Hyde Chambers.
He is survived by two sons, Michael D. Chambers and wife Terry of New Syrma Beach, FL, Billy D. Chambers and wife Kathy of Candler; two daughters, Dana Ensley and Peggy C. Thomas and husband Vincent of Bryson City; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He served with the U.S. Army in WWII European Theater. He worked for the G.S.M National Park Service for 25 years and Job Corp for 7 years and retired from the Federal Government with 32 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman always having a story to tell to anyone that would listen. He was known for the accuracy of his hunting dogs throughout the state, his ability to out walk anyone and was known as "the walking wonder.: He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Ed Kilgore will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
