CHEROKEE -- James L. Morris III ,67, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 07, 2010, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Jim graduated from Swain County High School in 1961 and from Western Carolina University in 1965. Jim was a member of Victory Baptist Church, where he served on the Missionary Board and was a loyal friend of Archie Watkins and accompanied him to many gospel music concerts over the years. He was a successful businessman in Cherokee for over 30 years. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the First Citizens Bank of Cherokee.
Jim was born in Rutherfordton, NC, to Hattie L. and the late James L. Morris, Jr. He was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his mother, Hattie G. Morris; his wife, Carolyn Wilson Morris; two daughters, Teri Lynn Morris of Bryson City and Missey (Scott) Ogle of Whittier; two grandchildren, Logan and Emily Ogle; brothers- in- law Hoyt (Carolyn) Wilson of Thomasville; Steve (Debbie) Wilson of Raleigh; Terry (Belinda) Wilson of Whittier; sisters-in law Ruth (John) Tabor of Kernersville; Betty Grant and Deanne (Dick) Ensley of Bryson City; Rella (Tom) Reece and Opal (John) Mashburn of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 9th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Victory Baptist Church in Bryson City NC. Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 10th at Victory Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by Jon Stephens, Eddie Deitz and Samuel Manus.
Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery Whittier NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Church.
