Obituary of Rufus Clifton Taylor

Rufus Clifton (R.C.) Taylor, 82, of the Brush Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 11, 2010 in the Hermitage, a Health Care Facility. A native of Jackson County, he had been a resident of Swain County since 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. and Polly Adams Taylor, two sisters, and six brothers. He retired with 38 years in Swain County School Systems as a Teacher, Principal, and as Assistant Superintendant. He graduated from Western Carolina University with a B.S., M.S. and with an Educational Administrative Degree and was a member of several Professional Organizations. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of Brush Creek Baptist Church where he served as an adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Treasurer. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He also was the owner of Cliff View Farms. He was a Veteran, a dedicated Teacher, a hard-working farmer, and a true and faithful husband.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Oma Lee Marr Taylor; one sister, Ruby Freeman of Cullowhee; three sisters-in-law, Pat Earley and husband Don of Bryson City, Juanita Taylor of Asheville, and Edith Taylor of Maryville, TN, several nieces and nephews and great and great great nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephew, Paula Fuller (Jeff), Jordan Earley and Patricia Earley and special great nieces, Victoria Fuller and Kristiana Fuller.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Jon Stephens will officiate with burial in the Truett Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be John Marr, Sr., John Marr, Jr., John Smith, Ron Pressley, Jim Hall, and Danny Childers.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Swain County Gideons at PO Box 2282, Bryson City, NC 28713, or to Victory Baptist Church at 1275 New Fontana Rd, Bryson City, NC 28713.
