Obituary of William Edwin Gass

William (Bill) Gass, 79, of Whittier went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 at Cherokee Indian Hospital. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Horace M. and Lillian Blankenship Gass. He was a member of Patterson Chapel Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his son Terry (Buddy) Gass; one brother Marshall Gass and one sister Wanda Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lettie Gass; three daughters Jerrie McFalls and husband Randy, Susan Frady and husband Dennis, and Becky Martin and husband Johnny; daughter-in-law Sophia Gass; one step daughter, Barbara Williams and husband Gary; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one brother Marion (Buddy) Gass; one sister, Elizabeth Bryson; special nephew Chad Gass; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Cherokee Baptist Church with Preachers Chris Osborne and Percy Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Thomas Memorial Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post 143, Cherokee, NC.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cherokee Baptist Church at PO Box 1550 Whittier, NC 28789.
