Donald Edward (Don) Helms, 55, of the Alarka Community in Bryson City, NC went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 17, 2010 at his residence. A native of Alabama, and longtime resident of Florida, he had lived in Swain County for the past 3 years. He was the son of Gerald Edward and Mary Loyce Butler Helms of Ozark, AL.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Janet (Jan) Helms; one daughter, Robyn Lindsey Spalding (Mark) of Chattanooga, TN; one son, Erik Pitcher of Bryson City; one sister, Peggy Crumpler (Shawn) of Auburn, AL; and one grandchild, Jackson Lee Spalding.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Marty Pressley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Icthus Ministries, 2068 Deep Gap Road, Bryson City, NC 28713.
Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
