To Karen's family:
I am sorry that I could not be at the celebration of life for Karen last Saturday; please know that during that afternoon, I did remember her--and you. My memories of Karen are mainly ones of her youth: a beautiful young girl/woman, full of vitality, a smile on her face--and as smart as could be (well, Debra, she did have a lot to live up to to match your high school accomplishments). For some years after high school, we kept in touch but, as "road leads on to roads," we lost touch with each other (although touching bases once again when Bart was in an English class I was teaching). Mrs. Watson, please know that both Karen and Debra made memorable impressions on me as a young teacher--they were two of Swain High's best. To all of you, sincere condolences and a prayer for your comfort and peace. Mary Stiles
