A wonderful teacher who was an inspiration for me to go to college. She believed in me although i lived back in the mountains. I did fulfill this dream after working and attended college at night..graduating with honors after 11 years at night nonstop taking classes. I still have that 7th grade report card from the old whittier school from her class and I think a picture too. Years I believe 1963-64. Blessings to the family. Hold on to the memories.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this dear sweet lady. I spent many times in my life sitting in Carolina Builders Supply, because my Dad worked there, and I always found Kay to be so friendly. I loved her smile. May God comfort you all in this time of loss.

Charles and Family
Our hearts sank within us upon hearing that my Wake Forest sister Kay left this life Wednesday. You and the family can take consolation knowing that everything humanly possible was done to see she received tender and loving care.
Thank you for being a devoted and caring friend to us in church, choir, and community.
God bless and sustain you and yours through days of sorrow.
Love, Earl, Margie, James and Kathryn, Judy and Gene Couch.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Kay was one of the nicest and sweetest people I ever knew. I can only imagine what the loss of the person we all knew to that horribly tragic disease must have been like for her loved ones. My family is dealing with the same situation right now. Praise God that He has taken her to rest with Him. Praying that He will see you through this time of grief. God bless you all!

Charles, Carroll, Jr. and all of Kay's family--You are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of sadness and trouble. I've known Kay as long as my memory goes back, right to those days when the family lived alongside Bryson Branch and Carroll, Jr. would throw a football around with some of us boys who were slightly younger.
In adulthood, Kay was always to me the epitome of grace and graciousness, a woman dedicated to her family, the community, her church, and in love with her highland homeland. In short, she was precisely the kind of person who represented all that was enduring and endearing about Bryson City and Swain County. Cling to the good memories and the good times, and knowing Kay there were plenty of those.
