Bryson City, North Carolina -
On October 11, 2024, Billy Scott Smith entered his eternal rest at the age of 83. Born to Jackson Arthur Smith and Neal Jenkins Smith, Billy was the second of five children.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Betty June Cochran and Judy E. Morgan.
Billy is survived by three sons, Dale Robert Smith, Billy DeWayne Smith, Darren Scott Smith, three grandchildren, Jaclyn Miranda Griffis, Dakota Scott Smith, Chase Scott Smith, a brother, Bobby Jack Smith (Betty), sister, Shirley Anne Clontz (Frank), brothers-in-law, Max Cochran and Andrew Morgan, his (close as a brother) cousin, Larry Simonds, many nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.
Billy was a graduate of Swain County High School and North Georgia Technical School. He worked for many years maintaining machinery for factories in Stem, NC and in his home town of Bryson City. He also worked for a time for Walmart in Sylva.
He enjoyed bluegrass music and was a very talented guitar player, using this gift along with other music makers, whenever the opportunity presented. He enjoyed going to dances and family reunions. He was first in line whenever chicken and dumplings was being served and enjoyed biscuits with gravy for breakfast at McDonalds. His favorite hobbies were fly fishing for trout, and squirrel hunting. He loved a good joke and never saw a stranger.
Services will be held Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 2pm at the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home with the Reverends Max Cochran and Eugene Moore officiating, The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Brendle Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East Alarka Baptist Church.
Crisp Funeral Services will be serving the family.
